Where are Methven and the Foothills?

Methven is situated below Mt Hutt (Opuke) and is just over an hours drive from Christchurch. The foothills includes the villages of Mt Somers and Staveley.

Who is organising the walking festival?

We are a committee of interested locals representing all of the groups that are holding the events.

Can I register on the day?

It will depend on the walk. Please see each individual event for details.

Do I still have to register for the free events?

No – registrations are only required for the events that have limited numbers.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Please be prepared for changeable weather. Events can be postponed or cancelled due to bad weather. You will be notified if you have provided contact details, otherwise check our Facebook and Instagram pages for up to date information.

Where do the donations for the walks go to?

The donations go back to each of the groups running them to help them with costs.

What else can I do in Methven and the Foothills?

Methven and the Foothills have a number of activities available. Check out the official Mid Canterbury website for the full range of fun activities and attractions or call into the Methven ihub for more information.

Are the walks suitable for pushchairs?

Methven Walkway is suitable for pushchairs, however the following walks are not; Sharplin Falls, Scotts Saddle and Woolshed Creek.

Can I bring my dog on some of the walks?

Absolutely you can bring your furry friend on the dog walk and dogs on a leash can attend the Wellbeing Walks.

Are all walks suitable for children?

Yes most of the walks will be suitable for children as long as those 15 years and under are accompanied by an adult.

Are the walks suitable for a wheelchair or mobility scooter?

The walks around the Methven walkway can be accessed by mobility scooter and parts of the walkway could be used by a wheelchair user.

Food and Drink – can I get something to eat?

We are very lucky to be blessed with a wide variety of fantastic range of restaurants and cafes in Methven, Mt Somers and Staveley. Check the individual events if you need to take a snack or lunch on your walk.
